PVRQ Version 2.0 - Release Notes October, 2002 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Changes in this version: A. ODBC This version of PVRQ introduces the ability to use the ProvideX ODBC driver to access the data files. This is useful for installations where data files have been defined in .ini files but not in the standard Nomads data dictionary. It may also enable PVRQ to be used in MAS90 installations, but this has not been tested. To use the ODBC feature, set the ODBC data source name on the PVRQ configuration screen. Please note that the ODBC feature is intended to be used ONLY with the ProvideX ODBC driver version 3.22 or later. PVRQ cannot be used with other non-ProvideX ODBC drivers. B. Print to Web Browser An option has been added to the report print screen to print the report to a web browser. When this option is selected, PVRQ builds the report in html format and issues a system_help directive to open the html file in the web browser. A web browser must be installed and registered on the local machine for this to work. C. Configuration changes C.1 System ID The configuration screen has been changed to immediately report the new system ID if the PVRQ serial number is changed. This allows distributors to issue a new temporary or permanent key based on the new serial number and system ID without having to exit PVRQ first. C.2 Using Windows-Registered programs for print to Wordpad/Word and Excel The configuration options for printing to Wordpad/Word and Excel have been enhanced. Two checkbox options have been added - one for Wordpad/Word and one for Excel - to tell PVRQ to use the program that is registered by Windows to open the report based on the file name extension. Boxes have also been added to specify the file name extension to be used for Wordpad/ Word and Excel. Typical file name extensions are "doc" for Microsoft Word, "wri" for Wordpad, "wpd" for Corel WordPerfect, and "xls" for Microsoft Excel. The standard defaults are "doc" and "xls", but the user may change the extension as desired to have another application open the report. If the checkbox option for using the Windows-registered program is not turned on, PVRQ will execute the path and program name specified on the configuration screen as it has done in earlier versions. D. Installation Enhancements The Windows edition of PVRQ is now distributed as a self-extracting executable produced by InstallShield Express 3.54, to provide easier installation and compatibility with Windows XP. E. Miscellaneous Changes E.1 Several screens have been changed to improve their attractiveness and to improve their user-friendliness. E.2 Corrected a problem that occured when a user removed a link from a report, causing some report columns to become no longer accessible. E.3 Corrected a problem that occured when the output file name contained a forward slash. When printing to Excel this was causing Excel to report the file was not found.
