KCML Release 6

Client server operation KCML6 running on NT/2000 or Windows 95/98/ME now operates in the same way as under Unix with the KCML execute engine separate from the presentation engine. Presentation is done with a KClient client program which attaches over a TCP/IP socket to the KCML process. The client and server can both be on the same machine or they can be on separate machines. KClient is a simplified version of the WDW product used with KCML4, the main difference being that KClient supports a text and forms engine, TCP/IP transport and client side $DECLARE. It does not have any support for serial connections (other than RAS or PPP). When the server is running on NT/2000 a new KCML Service Manager program is installed to manage the KCML connection service. This program which has a forms front end, listens out for incoming TCP/IP connections from KClient tasks on this machine or elsewhere on the network and starts up KCML sessions to handle them. It also has responsibility for starting ODBC server sessions and can be used to start global library partitions automatically when the server boots. Under Windows 95/98/ME the client can start the server automatically without the requirement for a listening process.

KCML is a full capability Integrated Development Environment that derives it power from integrated and time proven BASIC and modern 'C' development languages. KCML is available for MS Windows in single user and LAN versions, and for most UNIX platforms. KCML4 features a full screen editor-debugger and the Windows versions conform to The Microsoft Windows Common User Access(CUA) standards).

The KCML4 $DECLARE statement allows KCML programs to call functions in the Windows API conforming to CUA interface standards, Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) or functions in 3rd party Windows DLL's.

The greatest advantage offered by our Windows KCML products, WKCML(Windows KCML) and WDW(Windows DW) is the ability to exchange data with other Windows applications using DDE . All major Windows applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Lotus1-2-3 and AMI Pro support DDE, allowing data from WKCML and WDW to be transferred automatically without the need for intermediate files.

In an example of DDE utilization, a KCML database application can transfer figures directly into an Excel worksheet and have Excel draw you a graph.... or, it may pass a list of addresses to AMI Pro and have it perform an automatic print-merge... all by way of DDE.

Through the use of the Windows DW (WDW) Emulator, the power of the Windows API can be incorporated into KCML UNIX applications.

K-ISAM File Management System

K-ISAM is a derivative of the state-of-the-art C-ISAM technology that provides very high performance and many desirable functional extensions without the typical constraints, licenses or royalty fees. K-ISAM is bundled with all versions of KCML and includes a library of subroutines that simplify its implementation. The Kerridge ODBC Driver kit allows users of ODBC enabled PC applications direct access to data in K-ISAM databases such as REV. 7 and User unique databases.
