ProvideX
Today's application developers who are committed to successfully moving forward into the millennium, are forced to deal with an unprecedented pace of changing technology.
At a time when resources are limited, developers are driven to find more productive methods to develop and enhance their applications. To incorporate the emerging technologies, and at the same time provide their applications on the widest possible variety of hardware, and O/S platforms.
It is in response to this daunting task that we submit for your consideration, the graphical basic development environment,
Consisting of:
- An ultra high performance data base
- An integrated development environment for designing Windows user interfaces (NOMADS)
- NOMADS is an advanced "RAD" tool set that provides the programmer the opportunity to create and use the latest graphical windows, controls and dialogues in harmony with existing BASIC applications.
- A robust core language that is specifically created for handling high volume, mission critical business applications.
- An engine that runs on most popular business platforms; be it. DOS, UNIX, Windows (3.11/ 95/98/NT), as well as the business deployment of choice; thin client, fat client, 2tier, 3tier or Ntier.
- Powerful utilities providing Open Access to the vast array of emerging technologies, including ODBC, Internet, Intranet, Extranet, TCP/IP, third party development tools and data bases, etc.
Bottom Line Is:
"We are committed to provide cost effective, technically advanced, high performance solutions for developers, and we recognize that it is only the success of our developers that generates our success in the marketplace."

Why MidWare Technologies Should Be Your ProvideX Supplier
Before you order your next Business BASIC product, does your supplier meet some of the following criteria:
An Object
Oriented, Business Basic
Development Environment for Unix and Windows
ProvideX is a powerful Application Development System that will give you, the developer, the ability to quickly and easily transform your existing legacy code into a suite of applications that will both visually and functionally put you light years ahead of your competition
General Description
ProvideX includes a Powerful Core Logic toolset (including the highly advanced ProvideX business basic language), a Graphical Object Oriented toolset (NOMADS II), a high performance native database and access to the new state of the art technologies (ODBC, DDE, VBX's etc.).
Core Logic Toolset
The mainstay of the Core Logic Toolset is the highly
advanced ProvideX Business Basic language that has evolved from the original 3GL
Business Basic thus it brings a proven track record in the creation of mission
critical applications.
Additional Core Logic Toolset features include:
Compatibility
Because the development language was derived from Business Basic, ProvideX can run many existing applications with minimal changes. ProvideX includes a variety of emulation modes and conversion tools to simplify this process. Conversion tool sets are available for various Business Basic systems including BBx, Thoroughbred, Open Basic, etc.
Object-Oriented Development System
NOMADS II (Non-Procedural, Object, Module, Application Development System) is an Object Oriented development toolset that can be used in conjunction with ProvideX business basic to create GUI applications.
NOMADS consists of 5 fundamental components:
Panel Designer
Data Dictionary
Query Manager
Message Library
Security Manager
Additional NOMADS features include:
Open Access Technologies
ProvideX supports a multitude of system access technologies including:
ProvideX Platforms
ProvideX developed applications include:
Unix
Windows
Networks
Price/Performance
When compared to other development environments, a ProvideX solution is usually less expensive and provides better performance. A ProvideX application will usually use less than 1MB of memory per user. In most comparisons between ProvideX and its competitors, ProvideX outperforms them in execution speed by up to 25% and with its variable length record data files, it reduces disk space requirements by up to 50%.
High Performance Native Database
The ProvideX native database manager is specifically designed to support the levels of performance and data integrity required for mission critical applications running either in the Unix or Windows (operating) systems.
Features include:
Application Security
Programs can be encrypted through the use of passwords to prevent unauthorized viewing and changes to the code. ProvideX also incorporates an application protection kit that enables the author of a system to not only encrypt their programs, but require a machine specific activation key in order to run. This feature virtually eliminates unwanted software duplication and piracy.
Portability
Programs and data files are totally transportable between operating systems with no conversion requirements. Data files and programs can simply be copied and used.
WindX - The Unix GUI Magician
The WindX interface allows ProvideX, while running on a Unix (or other non-graphical host environment), to have full access to the graphical features of Windows. This includes direct access to GUI objects, DDE, the system Clipboard, Multimedia Control Interface, and file system (through the remote file services of WindX).
UNIX and NT Application Server
The ProvideX Application-Server technology for UNIX and Windows NT makes an excellent solution for clients requiring a high-performance application client/server system.

ProvideX Application-Server technology separates the program logic, processing and data management tasks from user-interface processing tasks. All program logic, processing and data management tasks are performed on the application server, and all user interface tasks are performed using a thin client installed on the workstation. Data transmission across the network is minimized as only the commands used to display the current screen and data are sent across the network. Reduced network data transmission per user means that more concurrent network users can be supported using the same network bandwidth and, equally importantly, applications can be run in low bandwidth environments like modem and WAN connections.
ODBC Driver
The ProvideX ODBC Driver will allow you to import data from ProvideX files into third party applications, eg. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Crystal.
C-Library
The ProvideX file I/O library consists of a series of functions that enable ‘C’ or other language programs to directly read and/or write ProvideX Keyed files. Functions to read, write (add or update), and delete are provided.
The C-Libraries are available for a wide variety of operating environments such as Windows (16 & 32 bit), Unix, and DOS.
